Senators Release “Bipartisan Framework for Comprehensive Immigration Reform"
On 01/28/13 a bipartisan group of 8 Senators released a set of principles to overhaul the country’s immigration system. The principles include a path to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the country and calls for increased enforcement. Click here for the full release.
 
Reminder: New $165 USCIS Immigrant Fee Takes Effect on February 1
This USCIS blog post serves as a reminder to the public that starting February 1, 2013, those who receive an immigrant visa package from a U.S. consulate or embassy abroad must pay both the Department of State application fee and the new $165 USCIS immigrant fee.
 
New U.S. Visa Processing Arrangements in Istanbul and Ankara
Starting December 19, 2012: Akbank will collect visa application fees for U.S Embassy Ankara and U.S. Consulate General Istanbul. The Turkish Post Office (PTT) will become the courier service for visa delivery, which will be made to the local point of sale post office branch of your choice. Applicants will pay only the required visa application fee, with NO additional fees for appointment scheduling or passport/visa delivery. Changes Under Review Would Extend Work Authorization to Certain H-4 Spouses

On Dec. 10, 2012 the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) began a review of proposed changes to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulation to allow certain spouses of H-1B visa holders to legally work.

Bye Bye I-94 Card
On August 7, 2012, without much fanfare, the U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) released a travel update informing foreign travelers that the I-94 Arrival Departure Card will officially be undergoing an automation process. All ports of entries will be issuing “electronic I-94” records to travelers, which may take between 30 to 45 days to be registered in the I-94 database. Some ports of entries may still issue paper I-94 records but those numbers would not match the electronic I-94 records.  There has been no clear indication of a method that allow foreign nationals to be able to access the electronic I-94 record.
